SN2011fe in M101

 

This supernova erupted on 2011 August 22 in the galaxy M101, some 21 million light years away. I did not get a break in the weather for observing it until 10th September. It peaked at about magnitude 10 around 5th September, outshining its host galaxy.

On HEQ5 mount, driven but not guided.

Taken through brief gaps between white clouds reflecting almost full Moon. Exposures longer than 5s just bleached out in the reflected moonlight. Processed in my own image processor (GRIP) to bring out as much detail as possible.
